Rosy Reveal: Microneedling and Dermarolling First Impressions

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is all the rage in today’s skincare world. While the thought of thousands of little needles pricking your face sounds like the opposite of productive, microneedling is meant to allow products to absorb into the skin more efficiently as well as encourage long-term healing. It’s perfect for anti-aging and anti-scarring! You can opt for more intense treatments at the doctor’s office, but in many cases you can safely use .25mm rollers at home for a fraction of the cost. I thought I’d give the treatment a shot to see if I could get firmer, brighter, and smoother skin for less than $30.  Continue reading “Rosy Reveal: Microneedling and Dermarolling First Impressions”

Travel Beauty Essentials: Skincare Edition

Traveling wreaks havoc on my skin. The stress, the dehydration, the allergic reactions — they all contribute to making my once perfect complexion, well, not perfect. When I travel, I tend to get irritated and dry. I also will begin to breakout in acne! All of these things can make vacationing unpleasant, so I’ve learned to keep a foolproof stash of skincare items to quell my reddened skin. I brought a spread of travel-friendly skincare products on my recent vacation to Mexico that I personally think was PERFECT.

MY NORMAL ROUTINE

At home, I typically will use a 2-in-1 makeup removing cleansing oil to get all of my makeup off. I then follow with a second gentle cleanser to ensure all of the residue is off of my delicate skin!

I’ll usually use a variety of toners or treatment serums depending on my mood, but after this step I always moisturize.

I recently have fluctuated between using an oil (almond or marula) and using my OG cream moisturizer, the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream.

THE TRAVEL SKINCARE ARSENAL

So, having been to Mexico many times in the past, I know how dry my skin gets after being in the hot sun all day. I knew I wanted to bring something extremely hydrating, and I also knew I wouldn’t be bringing my 2-in-1 cleansing oil, so I opted for something that could do both.

Nighttime Routine

I do most of my skincare at night. I love to ensure that my skin is perfectly clean and hydrated after wearing makeup and being out in the hot humid air all day!

Sweet Almond Oil is perfect for removing makeup at night. I apply a pea sized amount to my dry face and massage it in, making sure I’m dislodging all the makeup on my face. I then will rinse it off with a good, gentle gel cleanser. My favorite at the moment is from H2O+ Beauty; the Elements Keep It Fresh Face Cleanser is absolutely perfect for getting that squeaky clean feeling without drying out the skin! I love the gel texture of it. The brand was actually kind enough to gift me a nice little supply of the cleanser!

After cleansing, I like to use Boscia’s Sake Cleansing Water. This is such a soothing cleansing milk that reassures my skin is completely free of makeup at the end of the night! When at home, I use a cotton pad to sweep this on my face, but since I’m traveling, I just fold up a few squares of toilet paper to create a DIY pad. I find that my skin feels very soft and refreshed after using this!

If I feel like my skin is breaking out, I’ll use the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads. These are so gentle, but extremely effective! I love that the exfoliating pads will help manually exfoliate, too, so that the dry skin built up from sun and sand exposure can be cleared in the process. I bought the travel-sized package, but refill it with pads from my full-size container as needed for travel.

Depending on how my skin feels, I’ll either use sweet almond oil, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, or both to moisturize.  The oil is extremely hydrating, but the Ultra Repair Cream provides an amazing soothing effect. I do find myself laying the cream on top of my oil a lot to really seal in the moisture.

Morning Cleansing and Skin Prep

Because I have sensitive skin, I don’t like to use many products on it. My morning skincare routine is extremely simple.

I keep the Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel in my shower to give my skin a refreshing, but soothing, deep cleanse in the morning. I like to let the cleanser sit on my skin for a few minutes while I’m showering so that it can really penetrate my pores. I’ll sometimes use this throughout the day to refresh my skin if I go to the gym or come back from the pool.

When I get out of the shower, I apply the Milk Makeup Matcha Toner onto my face. This has a relaxing, calming, and cooling sensation. I then follow with Sweet Almond Oil as a moisturizer — I feel as though the oil protects my skin a little bit more throughout the day than the cream.

That’s all I bring with me as far as skincare when I travel! I realize that to some this may seem like a lot, but to some this may seem like nothing. It’s really up to what your skin needs and how it reacts to travel.

Milk Makeup: First Impressions

I ordered some new Milk Makeup products during the 2018 Friends & Family Sale last week. They just arrived and I am so excited to share my first impressions on both the brand and the products! I picked up a mix of skincare and makeup products, so I think I’m getting a pretty well-rounded idea of how I like the brand.

Milk Makeup’s Friends & Family Sale 2018: What I Ordered

Milk Makeup is by far the coolest makeup brand out there. All of their products are meticulously curated to give the most minimalistic and editorial vibe. Their packaging is right in line with the product collection, as well! I have never tried anything from the brand, mostly because of the higher price point and unfamiliarity with the product performance, but I have always been so drawn to its aesthetic. I would describe it as Glossier, but punchy. That being said, their Friends and Family sale began yesterday (6/11) and is currently over. With the offer of 25% off purchases $35 or more PLUS free shipping, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to dig into the brand’s beauty portfolio. As an added bonus, I got some gifts with purchase that have me super excited! Continue reading “Milk Makeup’s Friends & Family Sale 2018: What I Ordered”

H2O+ Beauty Skincare Samples

I love when brands believe so much in their products that they are willing to share them! H2O+ Beauty reached out to me via Instagram when I showed interested in their products. They were kind enough to send me a few deluxe-sized samples from their skincare line, including cleansers, moisturizers, and treatment serums. I was thrilled to receive these samples, and I can’t wait to try them out so I can share my thoughts on them!

ABOUT THE BRAND

h2o+ beauty package

H2O+ Beauty is dedicated to to showcasing the power of pure water in skincare.

From the brand’s website:

H2O+ Pure Water activates clinically tested ingredients and carefully curated
botanicals and extracts, delivering powerful, targeted skin care benefits.

Smart. Effective. Dermatologist Tested.

Sound right to me! Along with skincare products for a variety of needs, H2O+ has lines of bath, body, and hair products all with the same philosophy.

I have never tried ANY of the brand’s products, but I’d always been curious. I’m a sucker for high-quality skincare that’s safe for my sensitive skin.

Here are the products I received samples of:

h2o+ beauty skincare fresh

Elements Keep it Fresh Face Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin ($20USD 4 fl oz)

This luxurious face cleanser, with Water Lily extract, smooths and quenches as it gently washes away dirt, oil, and makeup. It preps your complexion for whatever comes next, whether that’s your pillow or more makeup.

I really enjoy this so far. After using an oil cleanser to remove my makeup, I go in with a dime-sized amount of this to make sure my skin is squeaky clean. So far, so good. No irritation, no dryness, and no discomfort. I like the gel cleanser formula, as well, because it really whisks away any oily residue.

h2o+ beauty skincare face cleanser

Waterbright Illuminating Serum ($56USD 1 fl oz)

Rich in Vitamin C, this serum is clinically proven to improve 7 different (amazing) aspects of skin tone*. Let us count the ways:

  • Reduce the intensity of dark spots
  • Enhance radiance
  • Improve clarity
  • Even skin tone
  • Increase brightness
  • Enhance texture
  • Improve complexion health

I have not tried this product out yet. I’m doing a bit of a skin detox right now using Bentonite Clay and Tea Tree Oil, so my skin is purging. I want to wait until I finish the purge to try this out for the most beneficial results!

Waterbright Color Correcting Mask ($42USD, 1.7 fl oz)

Supercharged with essential concentration of Vitamin C, this corrective face mask helps to fade the appearance of dark spots, improve uneven skin tone, and increase radiance. With added Pomelo and Snowflake Flower extracts, it hydrates and softens, all while improving the look of surface dullness.

Again, I have not tried this out yet because I’m waiting for my skin to finish purging!h2o+ beauty skincare product shot

Infinity Firming Eye Therapy ($46USD, .5 fl oz)

This all-in-one, over-achieving eye treatment targets six key signs of eye aging:

  • under eye circles
  • puffiness
  • firmness
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • eye lid elasticity
  • dryness

I can’t speak to this product’s full efficacy, but the past few times I’ve used it, I’ve noticed increased hydration in my ultra-dry undereyes. I have sensitive skin around my eyes thanks to chronic allergies, but this product doesn’t irritate it. I’ll have to keep using this to give my thoughts on whether or not this is worth the price tag.

Oasis Hydrating Treatment ($38USD, 1.7 fl oz)

This water-gel moisturizer instantly quenches skin and provides ongoing moisture. Clinically proven to more than double skin’s hydration and hydrates skin for 24 hours.

This innovative lightweight formula absorbs rapidly and is great for dry to oily skin types. It features a high-performance formula powered by dual-hydration technology that combines replenishing actives to add moisture while attracting additional hydration, plus protecting actives that support skin’s barrier to preserve moisture.

I haven’t tried this out yet, as my skin has been very reactive as of recent. I’m trying to use heavier moisturizers to lock in moisture, but once my complexion calms down a bit, I’ll give this moisturizer a go! Lightweight hydrators are game changers when using a natural or dewy finished foundation.

Has anyone tried products from H2O+ Beauty? I’m so grateful for their generosity! It’s really refreshing to see brands reach out to us common folk, and I respect them so much for doing it.

Wearable Peachy Glow Festival Makeup Look

‘Chella season is upon us. Whilst scrolling through impossibly perfect pictures of celebs at the festival, I’ve noticed the beauty trends are quite polarized this year. Some went FULL GLAM festival crazy, but more than a few went with a natural desert glow. I wanted to try the latter, so here’s a super wearable look that’ll take you from pool party to weekend festival.  Continue reading “Wearable Peachy Glow Festival Makeup Look”
