Too Faced Eyeshadow Palettes: Chocolate Gold

I went years without lifting a finger or even coming close to purchasing a Too Faced eyeshadow palette, but after snagging the original Chocolate Bar palette for $25 at Sephora it’s been all downhill. I love the quality and shade selection of Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar and scented palette collection. Ulta recently offered a 35% discount on a limited selection of Too Faced palettes, so of course I had to take advantage. I added the delicious and rich Chocolate Gold palette to my collection and couldn’t be happier.  Continue reading “Too Faced Eyeshadow Palettes: Chocolate Gold”

Milk Makeup: First Impressions

I ordered some new Milk Makeup products during the 2018 Friends & Family Sale last week. They just arrived and I am so excited to share my first impressions on both the brand and the products! I picked up a mix of skincare and makeup products, so I think I’m getting a pretty well-rounded idea of how I like the brand.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette- Initial Thoughts

Sephora’s Memorial Day Sale included some products that simply NEVER go on sale. Of these, the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette was knocked down 50% to $25USD. Having wanted this for so long, I didn’t hesitate before adding it to my cart. I wanted to share my initial thoughts on this gorgeous neutral palette as soon as possible because I am so smitten with it!

THOUGHTS

  1. Scent – Can I just start by talking about how this smells like a legitimate chocolate bar? It’s a very appreciated little detail, but it’s not overwhelming. If you’re sensitive to scent, you may not like this part of it, but I personally don’t think it’s enough of a fragrance to be irritating.
  2. Color Range – This palette kills it as far as color range. It has so many great neutral shades with pops of warm reds, burgundies, khakis, and purples. I find the shade range to be similar to the Urban Decay Naked palette, but Chocolate Bar is much more wearable. There are much better neutral matte shadows for blending, plus gorgeous shimmer shades. It seems as though the colors are much more cohesive.
  3. Pigmentation – The colors overall are hit-or-miss. Most of the matte shades are excellent; they are buildable, smooth, and can pack a punch. The shimmer shades are buttery and easy to build up. Where this palette falls short on pigmentation is in the purple shades; they lack pigmentation and vibrancy, applying patchy.
  4. Shadow Quality – Upon first swatch, these shadows seem powdery. I was afraid they might be chalky! Despite this strange texture in the pan, they apply beautifully to the eyelids. The mattes and the shimmer shades perform so well. As I mentioned in the previous point, the violet shades are definitely a miss. They can be used as blending shades or in small areas, but they’re not standouts.
  5. Versatility – The shade and texture range in this shadow collection makes it very versatile. Yes, it’s mostly neutral, but the pops of color and spectrum of light-to-dark shades make this a day-to-day, smokey eye, and statement palette all in one. You can go warm, neutral, or cool with this, too. I think the best part is the wide assortment of mattes and shimmers.

What do you think of this palette? So far, I am very much loving it! It’s awakened my love for creating eyeshadow looks again; I can’t wait to keep digging into it.

I’m thinking of doing a comparison post between TF Chocolate Bar and UD Naked — comment below if you’d be interested in seeing this!

Let me know what your favorite neutral eyeshadow palette is and why.

H2O+ Beauty Skincare Samples

I love when brands believe so much in their products that they are willing to share them! H2O+ Beauty reached out to me via Instagram when I showed interested in their products. They were kind enough to send me a few deluxe-sized samples from their skincare line, including cleansers, moisturizers, and treatment serums. I was thrilled to receive these samples, and I can’t wait to try them out so I can share my thoughts on them!

ABOUT THE BRAND

h2o+ beauty package

H2O+ Beauty is dedicated to to showcasing the power of pure water in skincare.

From the brand’s website:

H2O+ Pure Water activates clinically tested ingredients and carefully curated
botanicals and extracts, delivering powerful, targeted skin care benefits.

Smart. Effective. Dermatologist Tested.

Sound right to me! Along with skincare products for a variety of needs, H2O+ has lines of bath, body, and hair products all with the same philosophy.

I have never tried ANY of the brand’s products, but I’d always been curious. I’m a sucker for high-quality skincare that’s safe for my sensitive skin.

Here are the products I received samples of:

h2o+ beauty skincare fresh

Elements Keep it Fresh Face Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin ($20USD 4 fl oz)

This luxurious face cleanser, with Water Lily extract, smooths and quenches as it gently washes away dirt, oil, and makeup. It preps your complexion for whatever comes next, whether that’s your pillow or more makeup.

I really enjoy this so far. After using an oil cleanser to remove my makeup, I go in with a dime-sized amount of this to make sure my skin is squeaky clean. So far, so good. No irritation, no dryness, and no discomfort. I like the gel cleanser formula, as well, because it really whisks away any oily residue.

h2o+ beauty skincare face cleanser

Waterbright Illuminating Serum ($56USD 1 fl oz)

Rich in Vitamin C, this serum is clinically proven to improve 7 different (amazing) aspects of skin tone*. Let us count the ways:

  • Reduce the intensity of dark spots
  • Enhance radiance
  • Improve clarity
  • Even skin tone
  • Increase brightness
  • Enhance texture
  • Improve complexion health

I have not tried this product out yet. I’m doing a bit of a skin detox right now using Bentonite Clay and Tea Tree Oil, so my skin is purging. I want to wait until I finish the purge to try this out for the most beneficial results!

Waterbright Color Correcting Mask ($42USD, 1.7 fl oz)

Supercharged with essential concentration of Vitamin C, this corrective face mask helps to fade the appearance of dark spots, improve uneven skin tone, and increase radiance. With added Pomelo and Snowflake Flower extracts, it hydrates and softens, all while improving the look of surface dullness.

Again, I have not tried this out yet because I’m waiting for my skin to finish purging!h2o+ beauty skincare product shot

Infinity Firming Eye Therapy ($46USD, .5 fl oz)

This all-in-one, over-achieving eye treatment targets six key signs of eye aging:

  • under eye circles
  • puffiness
  • firmness
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • eye lid elasticity
  • dryness

I can’t speak to this product’s full efficacy, but the past few times I’ve used it, I’ve noticed increased hydration in my ultra-dry undereyes. I have sensitive skin around my eyes thanks to chronic allergies, but this product doesn’t irritate it. I’ll have to keep using this to give my thoughts on whether or not this is worth the price tag.

Oasis Hydrating Treatment ($38USD, 1.7 fl oz)

This water-gel moisturizer instantly quenches skin and provides ongoing moisture. Clinically proven to more than double skin’s hydration and hydrates skin for 24 hours.

This innovative lightweight formula absorbs rapidly and is great for dry to oily skin types. It features a high-performance formula powered by dual-hydration technology that combines replenishing actives to add moisture while attracting additional hydration, plus protecting actives that support skin’s barrier to preserve moisture.

I haven’t tried this out yet, as my skin has been very reactive as of recent. I’m trying to use heavier moisturizers to lock in moisture, but once my complexion calms down a bit, I’ll give this moisturizer a go! Lightweight hydrators are game changers when using a natural or dewy finished foundation.

Has anyone tried products from H2O+ Beauty? I’m so grateful for their generosity! It’s really refreshing to see brands reach out to us common folk, and I respect them so much for doing it.

New Additions to My Growing BITE Beauty Collection

BITE Beauty has been growing on me. The first products I’d ever tried were the Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipsticks and I fell in love! I love the brand’s commitment to creating high-performing, on-trend products using “healthy” food-grade ingredients. The minimalist in me sings every time I see a new release! Anyway, I placed an order so that I could snag my Sephora BI Birthday Gift (coincidentally, a BITE set), and I decided to pick up the BITE Champagne Discovery Set as it was on sale for $29USD.

BITE beauty multistick champagne set

Can I just iterate that this set is $29USD and comes with three full-sized products? The Multistick in Cashew alone is worth nearly that much, and I’d been dying to try it. You may remember the love affair I documented with the Prismatic Pearl Mulstistick in Oyster Pearl.

How cute is this Taurus mug that was sent over from my #taurusszn Bestie? I’m a May baby and am truly stubborn as a bull.

Bite beauty multistick cashew

I didn’t think it would be possible, but Cashew exceeds Oyster Pearl on the “products-I-love” scale. It’s the perfect nude color with warm orange undertones. I’ve been using it all over my face as a true multi-use product – eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick. It blends onto the skin so effortlessly, which is a surprise for a stick product. Usually, these tend to be waxy and hard in texture. Not the case with the BITE Multisticks – they are unbelievably creamy, soft, and blendable. Plus, though they are emollient, they dry down to a transfer-proof soft-matte finish.

To use this as a blush, I recommend warming it up on the back of your hand and then using a beauty sponge to blend it onto the cheeks.

bite beauty champagne multistick gloss lip swatch

Here’s swatches of the set. From left to right, the Lip Gloss in Champagne (metallic champagne with nude and gold shimmer), Lip Pencil in 036 (matte rose taupe), and Multistick in Cashew (matte rose taupe).

I’ve played with the Lip Gloss and Lip Pencil a little; they are both great! BITE has the best lip products if you like yours to be nourishing, moisturizing, and long-lasting. These are no exceptions.

What do you think of this set? I’ll be using these products quite a bit, both on their own and in tandem.

5 Underwhelming Beauty Products

Raise your hand if you’ve purchased a hyped up makeup product and have been utterly disappointed. If you haven’t raised your hand, I assume you are just a very positive person who is generally not disappointed with anything. Let’s be real — makeup is very personal; what works for one person is entirely dependent on their preferences, skin type, lifestyle, or whatever. Just because a product works for someone else does not mean it will work for you and vice versa. Here are five products that have recently really underwhelmed me. These are not by any means bad products, they just aren’t for me!

disappointing makeup urban decay palette eyeshadow

URBAN DECAY NAKED EYESHADOW PALETTEurban decay naked eyeshadow palette

I’ll admit – this was my first eyeshadow palette EVER. It was everyone’s favorite for a while, quite frankly because it was one of the first palettes really marketed as a multi-use, everyday, and wearable palette. I love the shadows, have no complaints about the formula, and enjoy the simple packaging, but I find myself struggling to get any use of it now that it’s pretty much been sitting in my drawer for years.

I think a lot of the reason for me not reaching for this is the shade selection. Not only are there WAY too many shimmer shades, but the overall tone of this palette is very cool. I’ve learned that cooler colors don’t flatter me the same way that more warm ones do. That being said, I’ll hold onto this for a while because I absolutely love Sidecar and Toasted.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARAToo Faced better than sex mascara

This mascara was SO hyped up. So many girls name this as their absolute holy grail, and being a mascara junkie myself, I had to give it a shot. I’ll admit that my lashes are not the greatest on their own, but I usually am able to get really nice results with most mascaras if I curl them.

While this mascara gives great volume and a nice black color, it does nothing in terms of curl or length for my lashes. Even when I use an eyelash curler, this formula is very liquidy and just weighs them down. For the price, I don’t get the hype, especially when there are gems like the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise at the drugstore for less than 10 bucks. If this works for you, I’m so jealous, but I think I’ll stick to my drugstore mascaras from now on!

NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER (TRAVEL SIZE)nars radiant creamy concealer

I’m so glad I only picked up the travel size of this concealer. I have friends who swear up and down that this concealer is the one, but it just didn’t work for me. I have finicky dry undereyes that crease and flake like crazy without the right products, so I was hopeful by the concealer’s namesake. Unfortunately, this formula was much too drying and just accentuated my fine lines. It did give a nice brightening effect, though!

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS LIQUID LIPSTICK (SARAFINE)anastasia beverly hills liquid lipstick matte sarafine

With so many great matte liquid lipstick formulas on the market, it’s tough to justify luxury prices for mediocre products. While I love the color of this gorgeous deep red, I’m disappointed in how drying the ABH formula is. I have another beautiful liquid lipstick from the brand in a stunning light lilac color and the formula is the same. I wish these weren’t so drying and crackly, because the colors are drop dead gorgeous.

CHOSUNGAH 22 SO TINY LIP & CHEEK TINT (NEON APPLE)lip and cheek tint red

This product was disappointing to me mostly due to the color. I love multi-use products like this because I appreciate the ability to customize my makeup, but the bright red color was just really unflattering on my skin color. It was so red that it made my skin look like I had an allergic reaction, so unfortunately I’m passing on this one.

I know these products are well-loved by many, so it pains me to be on the opposite side of the fence with my opinion! Let me know if you like any of these products — maybe I’m using them wrong?

What are your most disappointing beauty products?
