Happy Friday! I don’t know about the rest of you, but here in the South we are basking in beautiful, sunny, and temperate weather. As the sun’s rays pry through the remains of winter’s frost, I’ve been enjoying quite a few new things in life.
I’ll start with some beauty favorites.
Okay, who doesn’t love a healthy glow? Whether it’s the dead of winter or the peak of a summer heat wave, dewy skin is what I strive for. I love the long-lasting wear of full-coverage matte foundations (like my current staple, the Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation) but I hate how drying they can be. To combat this, I’ve been mixing in equal parts MAC Strobe Cream in Pinklite or Tarte Brighter Days Highlighting Moisturizer with one pump of foundation. Doing this lightens up the feel of the foundation and adds luminosity, but I honestly don’t see much of a difference in coverage. I set with powder in super oily areas and finish with the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray and the combo really locks in the fresh look all day.

I feel like all my current beauty favorites have to do with getting a perfect base. Aside from proper skincare, prepping your face (specifically by targeting your problem areas!) can make a major difference in the way your makeup applies. The two products that I’ve been using solve my two most stubborn problems: the Becca Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer for tired, dry, and crease-prone eyes, and the Albeit lip scrub for dry, flaky lips. If you can identify your “problem” areas, you can work to find products made specifically for them. It saves you money by narrowing down your focus and it makes a major impact in the way your makeup looks.
Moving beyond beauty…
Email Marketing Tools
If you’re beginning a blog or other social media endeavor and are struggling to build up a solid subscriber base, I encourage you to read up on digital marketing strategies. Fortunately, I interned with a start-up company a few years back and picked up some low-cost, high-impact tools. The most useful free tool I’ve come to love is a email marketing service called Mailchimp. Yes, it’s absolutely free up to 2000 subscribers. I’ve used Mailchimp when working for large corporations and small businesses alike — the power of the service is truly limitless.
Long Runs Around the Neighborhood
Running is something I’ve always loved — the runner’s high is too real. That being said, I’ve always been self-competitive to a fault. It came in handy when I played sports competitively, but when exercising for physical fitness and wellness it can turn into an obsession. I have the tendency to overwork my body in the gym — I destroyed my knees. I took a long break from running and high-impact/stress activities, but I decided I would give running a try again. It’s been a slow process building up my stamina and strength these past few weeks. I’ve challenged myself to actually jog slowly and enjoy the run. Yes, this is quite a test of patience. Despite the urge to go fast, fast, fast, I’ve grown to love the slower pace, meditative time to myself, and mental fortitude. I’m currently running 3-5 miles 3-4 times a week, but I plan on cutting back frequency, increasing distance, and incorporating more strength training into the mix.
This was a short post, I know, but I wanted to really focus on some of my actual favorites of the moment. Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below!
