While makeup is awesome and skincare is addictive, beauty is not my life. It’s actually a very small part of how I spend my free time! As obsessed as you may be with Sephora or Ulta, I know you have a life outside of the makeup world. Without going so far as sharing social media diary entries about my personal life, I want to be authentic about what I post on my blog. I’ll still post plenty about makeup and beauty, but I want to start to share some other interests. I try to keep sight of life in its fullness, and that involves remaining at least an arm’s distance from superficialities. Without boring you (hopefully you’re still here…), here are some of my current favorites beyond the beauty bubble.
I subscribe to both Netflix and Hulu, so sry in advance for being a serial binge-watcher.
GO WATCH THIS ON NETFLIX RIGHT NOW. If you like Black Mirror and Sci-Fi/Dystopia, you will love this series. I believe it’s based on a series of novels, so bonus points if you’ve read the books. Not recommended for youngsters.
This is US
Who hasn’t cried their eyes out watching this?
I love how refreshing this comedy is. If you’re in search of a 20 minute breather, this is for sure your answer.
Parks and Rec
Okay, so I didn’t get into this cult classic the first time it came around, but I gave it another chance and I’m SO glad I did. Holy cannoli I love Leslie Knope. Sadly, I finished the series, so I have a hole in my heart to fill.
The Importance of Being Earnest – Oscar Wilde
I had a stellar string of high school English teachers. My sophomore year, I read this under the tutelage of a teacher who had background in theater. That made such a great difference in the way I was able to appreciate TIBE. Oscar Wilde’s subtle sense of humor speaks volumes to me and I LOVE being able to laugh at something with an intellectual backbone.
God of Small Things – Arundhati Roy
Another wholehearted thank you to an excellent high school English teacher. Beautiful and horribly sad quest for love through the lens of law.
Well + Good
Juju crystal vibes meets green juice and Lululemon.
Love and Lemons
Beautiful photos of rustic dishes.
Food + Drink
Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew
Okay, I order a venti cold brew every morning. It tastes better than iced coffee, no matter what anyone says!
Califia Farms Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
I haven’t liked the taste of milk since my parents weaned me off of the bottle. I do enjoy almond milk, and most dairy alternatives. Out of all of the grocery store available almond milks, Califia Farms is the most appealing in my opinion. I like to use the unsweetened vanilla option in smoothies, hot chocolate, and baking.
Graeters Buckeye Blitz Ice Cream
Graeters is hands down my favorite ice cream by the pint. It’s so decadent, and it’s a little pricey, so I rarely pick it up. Those chocolate chunks just MELT in your mouth, though. I haven’t had it in weeks and I’m still salivating over memories.
Something about fresh, homemade style eggplant parmigiana just hits the spot. The marinara has to be bright and the eggplant has to be perfectly done.
Other Worthy Mentions
7 For All Mankind High-Waisted Skinny Ankle Jeans
I wear jeans every day, no exaggeration. Because they are such a staple in my wardrobe, I don’t mind spending a little bit more on high-quality denim that is flattering. My go-to fit is high-waisted/high-rise and skinny — it’s just a classic fit that looks good on every body-type. I have a pair from 7 For All Mankind that fits beautifully, but the most important part is the level of comfort. The fabric is so stretchy that it feels like I’m wearing leggings, but it never stretches out or gets baggy. I’m all aboard the premium denim train.
For funky feminist stationary, ban.do is the place to go. I use an agenda as well as stickers, pens, and notebooks from the brand. They offer clothing and other fun doo-dads as well. If you’re shopping for a fun gift, it’s a great brand to hit.
VSCO x Artificial Lighting presets
I haven’t use any other app to edit my photos since I started with VSCO in high school. The filters are artist-level good, and they’re suited towards a large range of photo subjects. I recently decided to splurge on the yearly subscription to access the entire filter library. Best decision ever. The app just released a series designed for artificial lighting shots, which is PERFECT for neutralizing harsh lighting in indoor selfies. I love how user-friendly VSCO is.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.
