Eyeshadow is something I spend WAY too much money on. Let’s be honest — if a brand packages eyeshadow in a semi-appealing way, I’m already in line to buy it. The result is rather worrisome. I have stacks and stacks of eyeshadow palettes that contain almost indiscernible shades as well as a drawer full of once-used eyeshadow singles. Unfortunately, eyeshadow is over-collected and underused. I’d like to take a moment to step outside of my mindless consumerism and write a love letter to an eyeshadow palette that I *do* use every day.
While I love playing with loud colors, high-impact metallics, and editorial looks, I’ll be hard-pressed to spend more than 5 minutes on my eye makeup to get ready for the day. I like warm-neutrals that require minimal blending efforts, but I also like nice pops of shimmer and highlight. My current favorite will probably never truly replace Modern Renaissance for my right-hand seat, but the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette pulls its own weight.
I like the slim, but substantial packaging. It makes traveling with it a breeze! The shade selection as well as the placement of pans makes creating easy looks a no-brainer. Most of the shades are matte, as well, which I prefer out of a palette. I certainly lean towards warm tones because they are most flattering against my complexion; Tartelette In Bloom nails the warm, but still neutral, spectrum.
As someone with oily lids and pronation to creasing, I appreciate the staying power of the Amazonian clay eyeshadow formula. Some of the shades can be a little powdery in the pan, but they apply beautifully to the lids. I find the formula to be highly pigmented and creamy. My go-to everyday look includes a blend of flower child, smarty pants, and jetsetter in my crease with a pop of funny girl in my inner corner. It never looks overdone. If I’m feeling mauvey, I really dig into the third row, and if I’m feeling smokey, the first row has me covered. This is truly a versatile palette. My only complaint is about smokeshow and activist, which can be a bit patchy if used too liberally. These two shades tend to cling to dry patches, so they work best if applied patiently and in smaller areas. As eyebrow shades, these perform fabulously.
I’m not ashamed to say that I own all three of the Tartelette palettes. In comparison with the original and the Toasted palettes, this one should appeal to a much wider range of beauty-lovers. You can pick this up for around $40, which is a little pricey, but consider how much use you could get out of it. Tarte as a company has come under a lot of criticism for their pathetic Shape Tape foundation shade range, but despite their absolute ignorance of diversity and inclusion I find myself gravitating towards them. For the most part, their products are superior and innovative, plus they really reach out to their consumer base.
Do you enjoy reading posts like this? Rather than write full-on reviews of new (or new-to-me) products, I’d like to write spotlights on products I already love. These are more recommendations where I explain why I love a product. What kinds of products are you interested in hearing about? I have so many great products, from makeup to skincare to haircare, and they deserve all the love in the world. I’ll be posting more, but in the meantime, be sure to check out some of my favorite haircare products or my review of the Vanessa Hudgens x Sinful Colors makeup line.
Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.
